Here is a look at the new REEBOK CrossFit commercial which is due to air during the NFL playoffs this weekend.
CrossFit, the REEBOK CrossFit partnership and its deal with ESPN to televise the REEBOK CrossFit Games has been stirring up a frenzy in the press lately.
I was speaking with Greg Glassman on the phone a couple of years back and he asked me how CFHQ could help our Affiliate, and I mentioned something along the lines of... more publicity through advertising... Glassman kind of chuckled and asked me " What would you do if 300 folks showed up at your box tomorrow?" I got it... and understood.
When Harbor City CrossFit became an Affiliate in 2007, we were the first and only in Brevard county for almost a whole year. We were somewhere around the mid 300th Affiliate WORLDWIDE. Today, there are several CF gyms in Brevard and over 3,000 in the world! The Games have evolved from a few dozen folks competing in gravel and dust at Dave Castros family ranch to an internationally televised, giant arena event. The 2011 CF Games attracted thousands of would be competitors and multitudes of fans and spectators. This year promises to be even bigger with over one million dollars in prize money.
We are proud to have been an Affiliate for the past 5 years and are exited for the future. There is still some nagging nostalgia for the "old days" when a bunch of folks, most who knew or knew of, each other, were just working out and competeing in local garage gyms and parks... Eh...
A concerned and combined voice lately on the interwebz is that CrossFit could go "mainstream" in such a way to completely change the "way it was". We're pretty "old school" here at Hc2, but I don't see a reason to fret, Why? CrossFit is just too hard for your average person.
Yes, Lot's more people will be introduced to CF. We're sure to see an influx of newbies who want to try "the new CrossFit craze" but they will still be the same "type" of person you met on day one... And that's a good thing... CF has ALWAYS been self selecting and it never gets easier. It's up to the Affiliates to continue upholding and teaching the traditions and pass them on ... we will, even if 300 people show up tomorrow

Well put. The key is for the affiliates and coaches to instill the same discipline, intensity and enthusiasm for this sport of fitness-- and as you said, integrity. Make people perform to standards-- even when scaling, they will reach personal goals and feel fantastic, then adjust those goals up to a new level. That's no different today than when I started three years, nine months and 19 days ago!
